About Don
Don

Don lives and practices craniosacral therapy in Montara, CA. He has been doing “cranial work” informally since the late 80s and opened his professional practice in 2003. He is licensed as a massage technician by San Mateo County. He is not licensed by the State as a “healing arts practitioner,” since California has no state-wide massage and body work licensure.

Much of Don's ongoing training in craniosacral therapy and related modalities is through the Upledger Institute and with French osteopath Alain Gehin. Don has also studied acupressure at the Acupressure Institute in Berkeley, CA (completing a 150 hour course in 2003), “micromovement” with Dr. Hubert Bacia (now of Berlin), and adopts good ideas wherever he finds them. He studies privately with advanced craniosacral practitioners in the Bay Area to deepen his understanding and refine his touch.

Major influences on Don’s approach to craniosacral work include past practice in Aikido (in which he holds a third-degree black belt) and ongoing meditation practice. The former reinforced his appreciation of solid technique as the basis for physical intuition; the latter gives him practice in sitting quietly and watching what comes up without expectation or agenda.

Before turning to professional craniosacral practice, Don worked in Silicon Valley as an independent consultant and, earlier, for ROLM (now part of Siemens) and IBM. Don has a Ph.D. in theoretical physics from the University of Minnesota and once taught at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN.
